I first learned about Golden Milk when serving in Cameroon as a nanny to a missionary family. I was having trouble sleeping, so my friend Kara introduced me to the delights of Golden Milk. We would blend our spices and powdered milk on the spot and add hot water and honey for a delightful and relaxing beverage.

Turmeric has many health benefits as one might suspect from such a vibrant and healthy-looking root. The active ingredient in turmeric is a natural compound (polyphenol) called curcumin, which has both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties (Brown, John Hopkins Medicine, 2024). It also works wonders as an immune boost!

Golden Milk Blend

Makes 1 cup mix (approx. 16 servings) | Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup powdered milk (optional, you can blend your golden milk with fresh milk as well)

  • 1/3 cup ground turmeric

  • 1/3 cup coconut sugar (you can also add honey to taste when blending your golden milk if you don’t have coconut sugar)

  • 2 Tbsp. ginger

  • 2 Tbsp. cinnamon

  • 2 tsp. cardamom

  • 1 tsp. ground black pepper

  • 2 tsp. vanilla powder or vanilla protein powder (optional)

Directions:

  1. Blend all ingredients until well combined. Store in a jar or tin until ready to use.

  2. To make golden milk, stir 1-2 Tbsp of blend into a mug of hot water. Add milk to taste. If you did not add sweetener to your blend, you can add honey at this stage to sweeten your drink.

  3. Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or turmeric. Enjoy!
